Saturday Roundup - All about me

Hi Vanity!  No, but reallly.  I decided to tell you 10 things (interesting/matter of fact/ random) about me for the blog hop I am taking part in (see badge in my sidebar --> ) so if you've found your way here via Grow Your Blog, I am really happy to meet you and can't wait to visit your blogs too!  If you and I go back a while, then I hope you won't find ths too boring.  And if you want to play along, I'd love to read your 10! {I'll edit ths to add links to you if you do!}

1.  My name's Rachel.  Hi!  I'm in my late {gulp} 20's and live in the middlest middle of England, which is currently cold and snowy.

2.  I am an ex-librarian and ongoing book fiend, though a few health problems in the last 18 months mean that now I mostly listen to audiobooks.  I'm obsessed (in a good way) with Audible and am on Goodreads if you would like to trade reading reccommendations!

3.  I love making things, in particular knitting and crochet, and I am hoping to finally finally get my Folksy shop up and running by the end of the month.  Currently busy stock-building and praying for a bright enough day to take photographs in!

4.  I adore musicals and will can recite many of them (libretto and all) word for word.  I am counting down the months until My Very Favouritest comes back to the West End, as I have recently heard it will.  I am already plotting a mass meet-up to drag Everyone I Know to see it and make them love it too ;)  {if they haven't already been subjected to that}

5.  I once spent six months living and working for a charity in Sao Paulo.  It was the maddest thing I've ever done.

6.  I'd moved away from, and returned to, my home town  at least three times before I decided to embrace inevitability and stay here.  Be it ever so 'umble etc.

7.  When I was about six years old I won a Blue Peter Badge.  Still awesome.

8.  I can tell you, 90% of the time, who that guy was and what on earth you've seen him in.  I have an immense capacity for stupid hollywood trivia, even/especially from fifty years ago, and I love playing the six degrees of every actor ever game.  Ha!

9.  Speaking of, I have a huge amount of my memory given, without meaning to, to storing pertinent details of Sweet Valley cannon and also old Neighbours characters, plots and backstories.  This is why I can never remember what day it is or what I'm supposed to be doing.

10.  I recently quit facebook, and don't miss it at all.  I am on Twitter, and always on a hunt for new blogs to read and friends to make.

Ok, enough about me.  Tell me ten random things about you!

    10 things about me ...
    1. I think I shall join your reading challenge - I seldom blog about books but really should as I am obsessed with them.
    2. I am re-learning to knit, crochet, sew and socialize after a serious illness.
    3. I am an intrepid traveller and have been around the world several times - mostly alone.
    4. I have a large family with four kids (plus an adopted boy) and three g/kids and a wonderful husband - Mr Whizz Kid.
    5. I am highly educated and consider endless degrees and post grad qualifications were a total waste of time!
    6. Time would have been better spent learning how to cook and sew and bring up children and be a better wife and mother.
    7. I am not artistic.
    8. I am not interested in fashion.
    9. I do not wear makeup.
    10. I am loving having hair again!

    Blogging has helped me in so many ways and each day is a delight when hearing of others loves, interests and achievements.

    1. - "I consider endless degrees and post grad qualifications were a total waste of time" <-- agreed! I am glad I did my degree (History) because I am a nerd for all things in the past, but generall speaking it hasn't helped me much in "real life". Still!
      THanks so much for playing along! Can't wait to get to know you better :) xx

  8. It's nice to get to know you a bit more!

    - I also love reading. It's great that you've been able to continue "reading" with audiobooks. You might like to check out librivox.org or audiobooks.org for free (public domain) audiobooks.
    (I haven't listened to many though - I always feel like I'm cheating!)
    - I wish I could knit!
    - Did you happen to learn some Portuguese during your stay in Brazil?

    Hope you have a lovely week! x

    1. Lora - thankyou! I am listening to a Librivox title at the moment - Les Miserables. I've loved the musical for years, and adored the film, so decided it was time to read the original ;) It's good, but soooo loooonnnngggg.
      Portuguese: I learnt a tiny tiny bit which I have mostly (unfortunately) forgotten now, except for odd words and phrases I still use in my every day, and quite often forget they aren't english words! Haha!
      And knitting - you should give it a try! It is so easy (and so addictive!) I enjoy crocheting, too, though I am a bit rubbish at that and mostly just do hats and blankets all using the same stitch (treble) ;)

    2. Ah yes, I've been put off reading Les Misérables because it's so long - the audiobook might be just what I need!
      I'm a Portuguese speaker myself, so that explains the question. :)
